About us
Our mission
Empowering women and girls through knowledge, protection and prospects
stop mutilation International e.V. is a non-profit organization based in Düsseldorf. Since 1996, we have been campaigning against female genital mutilation. (FGM) one – with education, medical aid, and sustainable project work in Germany and Somalia.
What began as a personal commitment has now become an international movement—supported by those affected, activists, medical professionals, teachers, volunteers, and supporters worldwide.
Our focus is on the regions where FGM is most widespread—above all Somalia, where 98% of girls and women are affected. There is a lack of protection, education, and medical care there. That is where we are fighting for change.
Let's make the world a little better together
Our work is based on partnership—with local organizations such as SOWDA, with clinics, with communities, and with those affected.
We listen instead of dictating.
We provide long-term support rather than short-term assistance.
Every donation, every hour of volunteer work, every conversation contributes to enabling girls to live in safety, health, and freedom.
Education & Prevention
We educate girls, families, and communities about the consequences of FGM and child marriage in a culturally sensitive and sustainable manner.
Medical aid
In Bosaso, we are building the region's first gynecological mother-and-child clinic – free of charge, safe, and open to all.
Vocational retraining
We train women who used to work as so-called circumcisers to become tailors—a way out of violence and into a life of dignity.
Education & Sponsorships
Every girl born in our clinic should be able to go to school. We make this possible through targeted educational sponsorships.
Empowerment
We empower women in their roles as mothers, teachers, activists, doctors—as shapers of a new, self-determined society.
Initiators and pioneers
Behind stop mutilation International e.V. behind it are people with personal stories, professional expertise, and unwavering commitment. They have not only launched a project—they have paved the way for education, healing, and real change.
With courage, experience, and cultural depth, they are shaping change—close to the people, clear in their stance, and consistent in their commitment to girls and women.
