Future instead of compulsion
Empowering girls through education, awareness-raising and a life of safety and dignity.
In Somalia, the average family income is around US$200 per month. Many families therefore cannot afford to send all their children to school—and if they do, it is usually only their sons. Girls, on the other hand, are often married off at an early age. Their childhood ends before it has really begun.
The numbers speak for themselves:
- Only about 30% of girls attend primary school at all.
- Many are married before the age of 15.
- There is no legally defined minimum age for marriage.
Early marriage often means early pregnancy—with health consequences that can sometimes be life-threatening. Many of these girls never experience true self-determination or education.
Our answer: education instead of circumcision.
We create safe learning spaces, encourage school attendance, and educate families and communities about the consequences of child marriage and female genital mutilation.
And we go one step further:
Every girl born in our clinic should be allowed to go to school.
Through targeted sponsorships, we want to ensure that these girls—regardless of their family's income—have a real chance at education, freedom, and a future.
Because educated girls live healthier, freer lives—and change the world.
